We are happy to announce a winner in the “People at Scriptus 2016” Instagram contest. While there were a number of excellent photos posted to #ScriptusToronto, one in particular struck us as summarising the entire Scriptus experience.
Farah Khattak spent the day supporting her husband, Salman’s table. Apparently she took loads of photos of people, most of whom were looking down at tables of writing fun; this makes for good times, but not great photos. Finally, she caught two of Toronto’s most zealous pen-lovers in the middle of the crowd—in the middle of a perfect show-and-tell moment—with Salman in the foreground. This scene is what Scriptus is all about: all sorts of people enjoying pens and writing, all together on one great day.
Our congratulations go to Farah on her perseverance and skill in taking this great photo!
One of the biggest factors in helping Scriptus continue year-after-year is the raffle. Our third show was supported wholeheartedly by many exhibitors, and we had a record twenty prizes on offer. The draw was held in the last hour of the show, and we are happy to announce the results, including one double-winner!

We would like to extend a special word of thanks to Peter Laywine and his staff at Laywine’s Pens & Organizers for their extra help and assistance in connection with the raffle (in addition to their generous prize donation).
Our congratulations go out to all of the winners. And our greatest thanks go to the prize donors and everyone who donated to Scriptus by participating in the raffle this year. Thanks to you we can look forward to Scriptus 2017!
Tomorrow, hordes of pen and writing lovers will be descending on the Toronto Reference Library for Scriptus 2016. In the past, such an event would have an ‘official photographer’, who would dutifully document the day’s excitement: vintage plastics, rainbows of ink bottles, riffling paper, happy faces.
And then it occurred to us: why not crowdsource the photo-taking?
We are happy to announce the Scriptus Instagram contest!
This is how it goes:
- Theme: people @ Scriptus 2016
- Hashtag: #ScriptusToronto
- Best photo wins: a bottle of coveted Northern Twilight show ink & a Parker “51” fountain pen!
Upload your photos of Scriptus 2016 to Instagram for a chance to win. The winner will be carefully chosen by the Scriptus team, and will be announced within a couple of weeks (depending on how many photos we get).
Remember to include people in your photos, but please be polite about it and ask permission first.
See you bright and early tomorrow morning!
After thinking about the huge success of last year’s show ink, Maple Red, something occurred to us. In the interests of fairness, we will be limiting the purchase size for this year’s Northern Twilight to two bottles per person.
We know that everyone is excited at the chance to play with this ink, and we know you all will be happy to share the fun with everyone else!
With Scriptus only three weeks away, everyone is working hard to make sure things go smoothly. Exhibitors are polishing up their pens. Inks are boxed up. Paper is in neat piles. Mapmakers are map-making.
And while you have to wait for the pens, ink & paper, what about the maps? The maps are done, and you can download a copy of the Exhibitors Map & Directory right now!
Have fun planning your Scriptus day, and be sure to visit the show sponsors. See you in a few weeks!
We are happy to announce that, in addition the dozens of tables filled with fabulous pen and writing goodies, we are adding to your list of must-haves: a limited edition Scriptus 2016 t-shirt.
Featuring the original patent drawing of the iconic Parker “51” on a black background, this shirt will announce your pen addiction to the world! We are also proud to have found a shirt produced locally, of organic pesticide-free cotton. Reasonably priced at $20, all-inclusive.
Quantities are limited, and there is no provision for advance sales, reservations, or mail-out orders. To get this, you will have to come to the show on October 30, the earlier the better.
Add to your wardrobe, shout out your pen love, and support Scriptus, all at the same time; what could be better than that?
As if we weren’t excited enough about Scriptus, there is more good news! After the roaring success of last year’s Maple Red, we are happy to announce another limited-edition Scriptus ink, available only at Scriptus 2016, on October 30: Northern Twilight.
This ink is a stunning, yet subtle, blue-black, with a strong teal component and a hint of burgundy. Although the issue is limited to 244 bottles, each is a generous 60 mL, and priced at a very reasonable $16. We are limiting the purchase size to two bottles per person, to give as many people as possible a share in the inky goodness.
We are looking forward to the show, which will be bigger and better than ever! See you on October 30.
We are happy to announce that banners for online promotion of this year’s show are now available.
A full set of banners for free use can be found on our website, at: http://scriptustoronto.com/what/exhibitor-information/promotional-material/. We have included the banners themselves (simply <right-click> and <save as…> ), as well as code snippets to save you some behind-the-scenes work.
So feel free to distribute these widely, because sharing is half the fun!
Print materials are coming soon, so stay tuned…
We have good news, and we have not-quite-so-good news. The good news is: Scriptus 2016 is fully booked! Thanks to many of our returning sponsors and exhibitors from the last two years, and thanks to a number of new exhibitors, all of our tables are full for October 30.
The bad news? Well, the good news is also the bad news. If you were thinking about exhibiting at Scriptus this year, you can still get on our substitute list, but it’s too late for a guaranteed table for this year. Anyone filling out the application form for exhibitors after August 8, 2016, will be given the opportunity for a table in the case of cancellations, and we will do our best to give you as much notice as possible. If there is a cancellation, we will contact you using the information on your submitted form.
We have an exciting show planned, and will provide more information over the upcoming weeks, so keep an eye on the website, and be sure to sign up for our mailing list!
Scriptus, Toronto’s Pen & Writing Show, is devoted to promoting reading and writing throughout the year. We are happy to share with you an upcoming ink lecture & workshop, taking place this coming weekend (February 27 & 28, 2016) at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto (click on image for PDF download):
